The issues related to the security of the supports of public lighting in operation and the possibility of ensuring the durability of the same in case of their suitability, can be addressed with new advanced control methods that allow you to achieve satisfactory results. Company leader in the fields of maintenance, diagnostics and protection against corrosion of metal supports have developed with this in mind an advanced and exclusive system called "GECOMET" whose objective is to achieve security and protection of metal supports public lighting.
Analysis carried out on over 200,000 poles inspected have shown that a percentage next to the 1% refers to supports which are in danger of immediate collapse while about 4% refers to supports which require short-term replacement. This means for example that in a municipality that has 1,000 posts on its territory about 10 of these are at risk of sudden fall and 40 do not have the mechanical aptitude required and must be replaced within a few months.
Evaluation statistics on a sample of over 200,000 backups of each type on a national scale:
- 2% Damaged
- 3% Other (undersize, corrosion from inside, Poles Not Replaced)
- 25% corrosion of the buried portion
- 70% Anti-corrosion coating (sheath) inadequate or poorly installed
Tragic events have shown that the danger of collapse is often unpredictable because, to the situation already known with visible damage, is accompanied by extremely difficult situations to be expected as in the case of corrosion that develops within the supports that can collapse without any obvious external damage .
This danger will be expected to grow dangerously in the coming years to the detriment of safety, both due to non-scheduled maintenance charge to operators in recent years, it is due to the natural aging of the supports that are installed for a long time without having received a proper control mechanic and corrosion state of pole.
